A Basic D.I.Y Hang

Adding that touch to your home and having that satisfaction that you have done this yourself.

Hanging something on your wall is a skill worth perfecting and your piece of art you admire more then your loved one, it could be a collection of photo memories, a gift that's come your way or something that’s been passed down from generations.

To note….. Pleeeeeasssssse make sure your piece is framed beautifully and compliments the piece to a T, just how you like it. Be mindful there's a little formula and some math’s involved.

Be ‘AWARE’ of what type of wall you are working with, drilling hole’s in the correct position saves making extra hole’s down the track and letting frustration win. This could mean its become bigger than you first thought or possibly another trip to the framer (we do love seeing you though). Have the correct tool’s and fixing’s from the beginning and your half way ticking it off the job list.

This here is based on a plaster wall. Example Framed work to be hung - 80x80cms external size and 7kg in weight and has a wire on the back

What height? Well it’s up-to you but a centre eye level height of 160cm’s to 165cm’s is generally a good level no matter what the ceiling height is. Let’s say your frame is to be hung centre of the wall, start with measuring the width of the wall and divide by 2 giving you the centre measurement, put a pencil mark here and one at 160cm’s from the floor. From this point you need to measure the total height of the frame, lets say it’s 80cm’s which we divide by 2 giving us 40cm’s so this mean’s we now put a pencil mark at 40cm’s directly above the 160cm mark we just did. Getting closer now……pick-up your beautifully framed work by the wire on the back and take a measurement from the top point of the taught wire to top external of the frame…….let’s say this is 14cm’s, from here we measure directly down from the previous mark we made and mark this zone. BINGO this is where your wall fixing will go and your piece will hang.

We prefer to use a single pin picture hook of min 20kg loading weight which can just be hammered in but there are other fixings which are more heavy duty but the formula remains the same.

If all else fail’s, or its to heavy, or you need more direction give us a call and we can hopefully point you in the write direction
